I had the pleasure of standing alongside some truly distinguished guests, including Lord Mayor Cr Lara Carli, Deputy Mayor Julie Shannon, Cr Sophie Ramsey, Steve McGhie MP, Joe McCracken MP, and CEO Roslyn Wai. Their presence made the day even more special, and I’m grateful for their support.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Melton City Council for giving me this incredible opportunity and for their ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming community.
One of the most meaningful moments for me was the chance to present gifts to the new citizens who were taking their oath that day. It was a small gesture, but it symbolized the warmth and generosity that make Australia such a remarkable place.
Australia is truly a land of opportunity, celebrated for its rich multicultural fabric. Regardless of your background, race, religion, or sexuality, Australia opens its arms to you with a warm and welcoming heart. To the new citizens, I want to say congratulations on this important milestone. We’re thrilled to have you as part of our community.
Thank you all for your support and for being a part of this wonderful journey. Let’s continue to work together to make our city and our country an even better place for everyone.
With gratitude,
Shilpa Kumar – Young Citizen of the Year 2023
